Smart Planning Boosts Clothing Production Efficiency

The clothing industry in Indonesia continues to grow, driven by strong demand from the middle-class market. However, many garment businesses face challenges in managing limited resources such as raw materials, capital, and production time.

A recent study highlights how mathematical optimization can be the key to solving these challenges. Researchers applied the Branch and Bound method, a powerful tool in Integer Linear Programming, to design an optimal production plan for PT. GM Tactical, a local garment company.

The results are impressive: by following the optimized plan, the company could produce 126 chino pants, 250 cargo pants, and 50 jogger pants, reaching a maximum profit of IDR 9,816,560. This is higher than what the company achieved with its previous planning method.

This research demonstrates how smart use of data and optimization techniques can help businesses make better decisions, improve efficiency, and achieve sustainable growth. The study strongly connects with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), as it supports industries in creating better productivity and profitability, ultimately contributing to a stronger economy.
