The increasing cases of cardiovascular diseases demand smarter, more practical tools to keep track of heart health. Traditional Holter monitors, while medically reliable, are often bulky and uncomfortable for long-term use. Addressing this gap, a collaborative research team has developed a breakthrough device, the Smart Portable Holter, detailed in their publication “Portable Holter with Cloud-Based Learning Analytics for Real-Time Health Monitoring.” Notably, one of the contributors to this innovation is from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad), showcasing the faculty’s active role in advancing healthcare technology.
The Smart Portable Holter is a compact, wireless, and cloud-connected system designed to continuously capture electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. Unlike traditional devices, it offers real-time analysis powered by machine learning algorithms such as Random Forest and XGBoost, reaching an impressive 98% accuracy in detecting heart irregularities. With seamless wearability, patients can comfortably use the device throughout the day, while healthcare professionals benefit from detailed, time-stamped records that support early diagnosis and personalized treatment. This combination of portability and precision makes it a practical and user-friendly alternative to conventional Holter monitors.
Beyond its technical achievements, this research aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-Being, emphasizing the importance of innovation in preventive care and improved clinical outcomes. By integrating cutting-edge technology into everyday health monitoring, this work not only strengthens proactive heart health management but also highlights Unpad’s commitment to contributing solutions that improve quality of life. It is a proud step forward for the Universitas Padjadjaran in shaping impactful, globally relevant research.
